grill/headlights

is it possible to put the earlier type grill and 2 headlights on my '88 wr?
same style as the '85 works car. anyone know how difficult it is/ where i could find the parts?

I think the bonnet is different Andy:idea:

you can, bonnet is same profile, just the struts are different underneath, yours has gas struts, early ones have a stay

kerker21 29-08-09 06:55 PM

can you dig it YES YOU CAN , yep

andy 29-08-09 07:27 PM

so it would just be the matter of swapping grill and headlights? or bonnet too?

john johnson 29-08-09 07:31 PM

same bonnet as mentioned, lights not a problem although i cannot comment on the plugs at the back......finding the actual grills and lights is another thing

The bonnet is only diffent if it is an early car up to 81-82 after that all bonnets are the same

Puglife 29-08-09 09:16 PM

Works cars ran the outer of the twin headlamps with a wider grille that also came out about 6" from its standard facing...... Would be pre '85 as well being Grp 4 or A1/A2....

If your considering space for a FMIC then think again andy, theres an aweful lot more work involved that just the grille and outer headlamps....

andy 30-08-09 02:17 PM

the reason why is that i fancy building a rallp rep but mine being an '88 was never rallied, and i just love the looks of that front end!
im probably being dumb here jay but whats a FMIC??
after the problems with the car this week though getting seriously tempted to burn it!

According to The family Album, part no. stays the same.

Baggee 30-08-09 07:16 PM

What's been up with the car Andy?

Same bonnets, just the grille sloped on the facelift cars.......

FMIC is a front mount intercooler andy...

Year of your car makes no difference in a recreation... the shell is the same as a group4/A1/A2 car just different wings on the A1/A2 and front end and bumpers are different....

I would personally leave it as a standard car, problems arise when you start trying to swap and change bits...

ok cheers jay, ill look in to the group4 cars then, not after building a complete rep just the paint scheme etc.
car has been a pain in the arse this week, after looking at it the car has definately been reshelled by a monkey! everything is just done badly, main thing was the diff locks, went underneath and the blue and yellow hose are not going anywhere they just go under the car and have bolts in the end also the electrics for the interior control panel are disconnected, reconnected them up and no joy so theres some problems there and yesterday the car was overheating but the temperature guage said it was cold and it was trying to stall on me and quite a bit of water coming out of the exhaust. I'm thinking maybe the head gasket has gone, didnt bother having a look yesturday so will look today. also I've been told that the car has a MB head on it but am not sure about this.
And also 612 motorsport have been messing me around with the seats, which are supposed to arrive today, 2 weeks late, ive also had to pay 100 quid for them to pass customs although the guy in the store told me he would write they were worth a tenner so i wouldnt have to pay this... abd times! thats my rant for the day!

Ah, the joys of ownership!

andy 31-08-09 03:21 PM

could it be the water pump failing?
