Happy days

I followed up an advert early this week not really expecting it to develop and lo and behold it worked out and the car was delivered by transporter today Did anyone spot it on its way up from Leicester? http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/P1020945.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/P1020944.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/P1020946.jpg lots to do so get in your sheds and cupboards and get your spares ready for me cheese Dave Also posted on quattroforum because I am excited:crazy: |

Sorry for the delayed reply, I went out and celebrated a little too much last night whilst I still had the money to do so.
The car was first registered in Aug 83 and has 99700 on the clock, it has been with the last owner since 1989, its a mucky grey / brown sort of colour, not sure what its called. Plenty of work required. It needs the idle sorting as it fires up and runs fine initially but after a minute or so it starts to stutter as the revs drop off and then stalls It looks like it needs an exhaust and the pre MOT check indicates brake ferules are corroded, I dont know what that means until I look I am starting on the bottom rung having never owned an Audi before and having only worked on Toyotas for the last 5 years . There are knocks and dints on the body and some surface corrosion, all treatable at a price and a respray will be required in order to make it tip top. However, every journey starts with the first step..... |
welcome to Ur quattro ownership Dave:ihih:
I though the early quattros had 4 headlights? or was that just the X reg's that had those. Dave as for your idling/stalling, check your hoses for splits or small leaks, I had this issue with mine and was a bitch to find as it turned out to be the hose going onto the front of the turbo intake, because its hidden away under the air box and fuel metering head you cant see it. Willl you be taking it to A.D.I ? |

.... Monday morning comes round....:yikes: hello hello hello JJ would you mind accompanying me to the station please, its MY turn to give you a kicking around the cells:ihih::ihih::lol::lol::lol: |
Quote:
It has no tax or test at the min, the work needed to put it through its MOT will determine how soon its on the raod and if I can get to events etc..... I can always come down in the GT4:idea: |

so you'll be in front of us all then:ihih::lol: |
dont bother trying to trace air leaks pm amanda as she has full hose sets on the way from sfs it would be a good idea to change all the rubber in one go as the kit includes all water and boost hoses and at a real bargain price to as you would pay more for just two boost hoses of audi "BARGAIN" if you need any technical help pm me and ill pass over my number as helping to run the quattro owners club has its plusses on the info front
on your year it should have flat lenses and grill and a light blue digi dash to if its realy early from that year it could have anallog dash |
It has normal dials, not digital / led
|
its got the correct spec for an 83 my car Dave, interior looks good tbh, just needs setting up and check for any leaks or porious pipes
JJ |
you lucky begger could it be one of the quite rare rhd conversions what do you recon jj
|
hard to tell IIRC early right hand conversions on the X plate were done by BRM ( dont quote me on that tho ) , and then on a Yplate on they were done by the factory, my a reg one is the same as daves but in mars red, thats an 83 too......without having a good looooooky it should have the higher rear suspension too , as is mine
JJ |
Early factory rhd also still had lhd wiper pattern for a year or so.

you are welcome to look it over any time jj |
Im free this weekend, going to bens for a few hours tomorrow, will come up if you like and bring the bits i mentioned
or get yer arese down here and drive the mb to bens! JJ |
drive your mb?
I was planning on getting mine onto stands and getting the wheels off so I can have a look at the brakelines / ferules / disks and pads the front disks have a noticeable lip, bugger, knackers, crapbag |
ok :p
be careful, you need a special jack as some quatts tend to fall off em  discs are cheap ish, you will have your contacts anyway by the sounds of it, its an early non abs car and i found the brakes not to bad tbh, check the rear brake cables as these are nla and if stuck may need adapting, the rear calipers stick for the fun of it too so check them and free em off, all basic stuff but will keep you quiet for ten minutes |

Having read the jack comments I decided to leave the technical stuff alone
I took advantage of the Mrs going over to see her mother and finished off cleaning the bodywork, its not bad from 5 mtrs away.:glasses9: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug002.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug003.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug004.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug005.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug006.jpg I quite like the colour, its very similar to Toyota storm grey in which there are are a handful of GT4s and was the colour I was going to go for next. |
Very nicey! Wonder what i can nick off it? :arf:
Montego black is it? |

It is Montego black I am told |
Seeing as I had got the week off work to re-roof the garage extension and shed and the weather was against me I thought I would make a start on tidying things up
The pre MOT the car went through before I got it had highlighted minor rusting of suspension and steering arms so that was as good a place as anywhere to start; sanded off with sanding disks, wire brushes and good old emery paper http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug007.jpg sanded down blisters and any areas of under body sealant that was in poor shape http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug008.jpg the bottow of the off side wing was solid but the paint was in a bad way so off it came http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug010.jpg wishbones etc... http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug011.jpg then painted with anti rust primer http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug012.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug013.jpg then painted with hammerite smooth http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug016.jpg moved onto the offside rear and subframe plus the sill and seams http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug017.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/G4CEL/Aug018.jpg Its taken about 30 hours so far, I reckon 50hours will do one side, hopefully the same to do the other side |
