Which Ronal R8 do you think....
Which Ronal R8 size do you guys feel would be the most versital size to remanufacture in all three VAG PCD's ( 4x100/4x108/5x112)?
I think for the greatest range of models, spacers added to those that really wish to push the look to 8", that 7x15 et 42 on all 3 bolt patterns would be the one. As near as I can tell R8's were produced in the following sizes. 5.5x13et38/4x100PCD 6x14et45/4x100&108 PCD 6x14et35/4x100 (dished) 6x15et35/4x100 6x15et42/4x100 6x15et45/4x108 7x15et22/5x112 (dished) 7x15et28/4x100 (deep dished) 7x15et35/4x100&108/5x112 (dished) 7x15et37/4x100 (dished) 7x15et42/4x100&108/5x112 (dished) 8x15et24/4x108/5x112 (dished) 9x15et11/4x108 (dished) http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/u...q_1985_021.jpg While I'm understandingly partial to the extra deep dish of the 7x15 et 28's on my car, the offset is at the limit without flaring the fenders. http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/u...RonalR8010.jpg Thoughts? |

7 x 15 looks good to me. I personally prefer the spoke design in the first photo
|
7 x 15 like in the first pic, i'm looking for 2 with 100pcd if anyone has some

15's in 4 x 100 are getting a bit like rocking horse shite! If mine were 15's I could have sold them a few times over by now! |
There was a set of 14's in 100 on ebay a week or 2 ago. looked in fairly good nick too
|
Interesting to see the first picture... I ran my old GT on tyre sizes right up to 225/50/15's, on 7x15's with ET25... The arches were modified but after that, anything went really... Lovely to see some 215/50/15's on 7x15's under a GT...

deep dish ones would be nice to get hold of.... just got some 15x7x42et R8s for my 90 off pistonheads... Attachment 3274

15x7j in 4x108 would be most sought after, 4x100 would prob sell well with correct offsets but your looking at limited number. With 4x108 and a few offsets available, your looking at VW/Peugeot/Audi and a few others being in the market..
The 5x112 i would love to see the original UR wheels recreationted in both 15x8j and 16x8j. 16's would allow a suitable brake size whilst not looking too big for the arches as 17s seem to do... |
Upgrading the diameter from 15" to 16" has crossed my mind.
I'm looking into actual recreation of an existing wheel, so ....the most equitable choice is to pick a single size and offset, then drill them out for different PCD's. Styler, nice find m8 ! |
Would it not be possible to recreationte the wheel with a - offset and have it machined down for individual offsets.... would then allow ET variations as well as PCD differences. Or is this not a possibility with casting being chosen method of recreationtion.

I do have a set of four 7x15 in the 100 pcd but an errant brother had a accident in the car they where on and bent 2 of them !! hence the need for replacements
|
I don't think you can change the offset safely by machining down the hub. I think within 12-13mm you can add spacers to push the wheel out further. A larger spacer is possible but then your rolling so far off the wheel center/track line it can degrade handling and wreck havoc with suspension bits.
|
Sorry i meant when its cast have a -45 et offset so it can be machined to whatever + ET you need.

ha ha .. cheers zermatt .. didnt realise how lucky i was to get them... you were thinkin of switchin to 16".. i changed back from 16s cause tyres seem to be more expensive then 15s or 17s like the unloved middle kid type of thing.. ur wheels are the nuts... was considering a 5 stud conversion before i picked up the R8s.. sport quattro type on a slammed mk2 golf... mmmm...

Zermatt
they were also made in 6x15 ET 35 as well as the 6x15 ET42/45 I know as I have four. IIRC the ET35s were actually for the Golfs the 42s and 45s for the Audis? Steve, can't help with the size you want but if you come across any 6x15s ET35 please let me know and I'll do the same. ( may consider ET42s if there are two or three wheels ) |
Chris, what's the PCD of your 6x15 et35's? 4x100?
Can you take a close up of the center hub and an overall shot so I can add them to my Mech/Tech thread on R8 variations? Thanks for the info. |
yes 4 x 100 pcd.
will do the photos, my camera currently left behind - 170 miles away but if I grovel wifey may let me borrow hers !! |
