90 20V SPORT mot failure help!

My 90 20v Sport failed her mot:cryin:,i fitted new rear discs, but have been told calliper needs replacing,a couple of brake hoses and a section of brake pipe too! Emissions were fine ,no ignition lights due to previous owners bodged ignition wiring job,he tried to chisel out the ignition lock, which he did but left the steering lock part in,can you imagine cornering then suddenly oops! steering lock on :yikes::yikes: A load of wires have been cut right through,i guess these are from the sensors and should go somewhere:confused::confused: but:idea:maybe the back of the instrument panel:confused:The garage has told me it will cost a lot to fix,and i would have to get an auto spark on the job,any suggestions or pointers most welcome.I do have a manual for the car ,perhaps a good place to start:idea:

I put one of mine in,to have clutch fitted and master brake cylinder.
While they were doing it,they severed a copper brake line.A few days after i finally got it back,i took the ex-wife for a driving lesson. It started raining so i put the wipers on(while the lights were on),next minute car full off smoke.
The prats had put the steering column pinch bolts in the wrong way, which split my wiring loom.It had shorted my lights and wipers.
From then on i try and do all the work myself.I can trust my and i,m alot cheaper.LOL.

Hm, unfortunately, I don't remember, how I did it, if u are talking about ignition switch. If the dashboard prevents u from placing it in place, unscrew theese two bolts that are holding dashboard on right side, that will allow u to pull dashboard back for some cm's, I think, that must be enough. The same thing is needed, when replacing air con fan, at last on LHD B3/B4's :D

ian20v 20-05-09 09:36 PM

Thanks for the info.ie 2 bolts managed to get ignition lock fitted:rock
Replacement instrument panel arrived ,plugged it in everything working but no autocheck, hmm. The old one had 3 plug ins and had a fuel consumption computor, this one has only 2? Is that another failure? I have abs and battery light on the front.Do i need a special instrument cluster for 90 20v Sport which has slightly different spec.Still got to bleed brakes and check:eek::eek::lol:

msh 20-05-09 09:50 PM

So, does it have two warning lights instead of auto check as base speedometer? As we can see here and here, third connector - C - have only one purpose - auto check. I only don't get the idea where connects B connector, because it have only 10 pins, it isn't like other three other connectors, but it doesn't care anyway - it's for on board computer and not autocheck. As I said - in your case I would dismantle speedometer and look for broken electrical paths and when found, solder them with some wire, that's the lightest damage possible there :D

P.S. I still don't get the idea how does MOT can tell before driver that calippers are stuck? :D When they are stuck, "driver feels power loss of car and wheel is unusually hot even after some miles in city" :)

ian20v 20-05-09 09:57 PM

No,the replacement has autocheck but i cant get it to work,I will try what you suggest and open up the faulty instrument unit and have a look cheers m8
