Split hose

TT4WD ( Colin) called me tonight to inform me that he has found a split hose going from the turbo to the metering head on my WR:tup::tup::tup: the one with an elbow join in it. Colin mentioned that it looked as if it has been bodged at some point in the distant past.It isnt visable when the air filter and metering head is in position. I am also having new manifold gaskets fitted while this kit is out for investigation.

SO........ question is, will this severly affect the idling speed and also the car's inability to restart when its at operating temperature please?

Other than this hose split what other effects will this cause?

thanks Colin its much appreciated ole pal you :tup::cool::smilewinkgrin::lol::lol:

progress at last, something definate to indicate Archie's lack of interest when starting up from warm and idling.

its an air leak old boy

PeterB 21-01-09 09:57 PM

A split hose certainly won't be doing you any favours Rich. ;)

quattrokid 21-01-09 09:58 PM

:yikes:

 i figured that wee bit out myself John but thanks for telling me:tup:

so is this the end of my woes?

john johnson 21-01-09 10:01 PM

Rich! change it and find out, it wont boost for a start very well. Any split is bad news Rich, i have blown hoses off and the car grinds to a halt and had micro splits and leaks and all affect the running

quattrokid 21-01-09 10:11 PM

hi Pete, thanks for your inputs chaps, hope its as simple as this.

I'll phone P.Reeves tomorrow and ask if the hoses are still available.... this isnt going to cost a kidney will it:devil:

how many hoses are on a WR anyway?

john johnson 21-01-09 10:12 PM

PM'd you on the other side fella

quattrokid 21-01-09 10:27 PM

got it thanks:tup:

Gordon WR 21-01-09 11:14 PM

Used to be £50 off Pete ,got one on mine works fine now, no boost if it's knackered.

quattrokid 22-01-09 02:37 PM

spoke to Pete Reeves this morning........... was quoted 170 quid for both hoses:yikes::yikes::yikes:

Then called Colin back........ so he is going to get some of his suppliers to look into making some instead.

..... for a bit of silicon hose....!!!!!!!

any wonder Audi doesnt supply parts at these prices. Oh Audi would charge about 200 quid but its now NLA.. no surprise there then!!

these parts should cost a few quid at the most:grr:

john johnson 22-01-09 03:24 PM

says the guy who has just broke up a wr..........:wall:

Pete Reeve 22-01-09 05:30 PM

The hoses i offered are the new silicon ones if you want the cheaper version in rubber for the plenum as Gordon said is £54,and your welding the exhaust then rich? barr humbug!!!!

you may recall it wasnt exactly going to see the road again!! It was a shell and a load of bits most of which isnt usefull to anyone.

No I aint welding the exhaust Pete??

Stop the thread drift as well.... its about a split hose... not breaking up cars or welding.:razz:

john johnson 22-01-09 06:15 PM

Ooooh! That's told me! You were told to check for an airleak months ago

quattrokid 22-01-09 06:24 PM

yea I know... I also stated months ago that the car would be off the road for winter and there's no rush. Colin would look at the car when he has time to do so when he does some routine maintainance with his WR.Colin has a dry secure place to keep my car in his garage which I am grateful for his hospitality.

Now that Colin has time to investigate mine he has found a split hose... hopefully thats all it needs and a routine service while we're at it should see it back on the road next month.

john johnson 22-01-09 06:28 PM

Job done then

quattrokid 22-01-09 06:36 PM

god i hope so bud... cant wait to hear that warble again and get it back out on the road.... could be next weekend BUT I am down in Cheshire with a pal getting his RS4 serviced and returning the rear section of exhaust to Amanda and also have a few beers with Amanda.

SO.... roll on Feb then.... then June as Helen and I are driving down to Spain to have a holiday with Colin and Jacqueline so am toying with the idea of taking the WR :yikes::D:lol::lol:

quattrokid 24-01-09 04:26 PM

here is the culprit hose....

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...0phots/013.jpg

this part is still ok

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...0phots/014.jpg

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...0phots/015.jpg

but what I am having made up is a U shaped silicone hose to eliminate the use of 2 separate hoses joined onto this metal bit of pipe.... how much I hear you ask.... 45 quid:)

oh and as for the exhaust rear section like Amanda's

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...0phots/016.jpg

ie the 1 on the right and mine is the miserable looking 1 to the left....well I have found someone who will copy Amanda's for me for 180 quid from SS 2.5" with 3" exit pipes and make it identical to Amanda's... collect next week.:D:D:D:D:D

I still dont understand why when the engine is warmed up doesnt start again if it stalls then have to wait until it cools down the it will fire up again.... perhaps someone could explain please.

obviously an air leak wont help 1 iota but why the non start up??

Gordon WR 25-01-09 10:26 AM

quattrokid 25-01-09 10:29 AM
