There seems to be at least 3 all with different part no that say they will fit my car 042 052 029 bit confused . Am i right in thinking that this acts like a fuel pressure regulator .

The number I gave earlier came from the Bosch catalogue.

I dare say other parts will fit - how the car will run with them fitted is another matter.

It does a similar job to an fpr - it smooths the fuel flow to prevent surges damaging the metering head / injectors

Coupe quattro with the KV used 0438 170 061 after 1986. Audi number is 443 133 441

I believe these people rebuild them.
No personal experience tho' ( yet !!)

It does not regulate anything, the car runs fine without it, the only moment when the lack of will be noticeable will be slightly harder cold starting. It's basically spring loaded membrane which stores small amount of fuel under pressure and releases when there is sudden drop in pressure in system. According to some manuals, K-jet systems has twice as much pressure accumulator volume as KE-jet systems.

Makes me wonder what's the pump in question. When I was interesting about new fuel pump some years ago, I got replies that new Bosch or Pierburg [OEM] was amount of money, equivalent to some 120 pounds.

I doubt there's anything to rebuild - usually the failure is fuel leak caused by corrosion... :D

There are ones available for around £60 - I never said it was Bosch or Pierburg.
