longest time of owning AND driving an Audi?

As a newbie here, and someone who has owned and driven 'the same' 1992 Audi80E for almost 18 years (purchased in March 1998), I was wondering if anyone on here can match or better that record?

THE RULES:

1. I am looking specifically for long term Audi ownership AND daily usage, however, exceptions will be made for those that have owned say a classic/vintage mode of transport for say 20yrs or more, even if not used as a daily!

2. To save any confusion, please state your Audi vehicle model, time of ownership ‘from’ and ‘to’ dates, together with the number of years the vehicle has been used as a daily; if you own/use more than one particular Audi model, then please differentiate them by also stating the year of manufacture and/or colour.

3. In the same way that the DVLA do not consider the owning of the same Audi 3 times within a 10yr period, or 3 different makes of car within a 10yr period, as being one transaction, nor do I! Therefore, you are only required to provide details of the ‘longest time within any set period that you have owned/used an Audi’ please.

Thank-you!

FOOTNOTE:
As has been pointed out (thanks to Tim C!, lol), from March 1998 to January 2015 is not almost 18yrs, but in fact almost 17yrs. So, to readdress this issue: this was a deliberate mistake as I’ve always added an extra year with the hope that my car will somehow see another year on the road, and with all of the restoration/repair work of late, it does feel like an extra year. As such, I am prepared to give members up-to one additional ‘magic year’ providing I am given good reason to, but please be aware that I hold no prisoners, so please do not take the preverbal!

The latest ‘Tally-up’ of comments can be found on page 15

Okay, let's get things started, how long have you ‘owned AND used your Audi/s’ please?

Phil Jameson 06-01-15 05:00 PM

Ive owned Audis for the last 26 and a bit years. But not the same one.

Coxy 06-01-15 05:09 PM

I'm lucky to own a car for more than 6 months!!

I've had RALF since 2006 so that's the longest so far for me.
Had my 914 for 15 years now which is the longest I've ever owned a car for.

mikes2 06-01-15 05:09 PM

I'll have owned my 90 quattro 20v for 10 years this year

leggy 06-01-15 05:11 PM

Nice try Phil Jameson, but 26 years, or even 26 and a bit years of owning different Audi's doesn't quite compare to 18yrs of owning the same Audi, lol. ;)
Ooooh, so close Coxy...no idea what a 914 is but 15yrs ain't bad! ;)
and mikes2, hmmm, 10yrs, not bad either I suppose. ;)

Now c'mon guys, someone out there must be able to beat my 18yrs, surely?

Roger Galvin 06-01-15 05:17 PM

Yes but at least Phil has corrected his mistake in selling his 20V by buying it back albeit some years later. I do claim the same Audi quattro for 26 years, having bought it 4 years old in 1988 I've had my Alpine White WR ever since.

leggy 06-01-15 05:28 PM

Woohooo, WTG Roger Galvin, 26 years of owning the same car is some record, I'm impressed! :)

As for selling and buying back an Audi, nope, not 'avin it, got to have owned the same Audi continuously, no cheating allowed, lol.

John. 06-01-15 06:05 PM

20vCQ for almost 4 years now...........and a Classic Audi Club Member for the same time.

100 Coupe 06-01-15 06:08 PM

I've owned my Coupe S for 20 years 6 months - a couple of months longer than the first owner owned it. There can't be too many 40 year old cars that have only had two owners!

Hanuman 06-01-15 06:14 PM

22 and a bit. 85 ur.
Going on 5 years for my first V8.

I get attached...

leggy 06-01-15 06:34 PM

So, The Real MSH! comes in at 22yrs and not forgetting the all important bit of course, 100 Coupe says 20yrs & 6mths, and poor ol' John has had his Audi for almost 4yrs (I think that puts you bottom of the list John, but hey, at least you participated, so thanks!).

Now, I'm clueless on most of these cars, but impressed at the same time as three of you have beaten my 18yr ownership record, BUT, where oh where are all of the Audi80 owners? Am I the only one left?

You may have one over on the others as you use yours as a daily!
I bet Mark can't remember what his ur quattro looks like!!

Megsy 06-01-15 06:45 PM

I've owned my UR for 13 years now 😊

But at least Mark(?) and I have something in common now, cuz I don't know what a UR Quattro looks like either, lol.

leggy 06-01-15 06:54 PM

Thanks Megsy...
Think that puts you in, hmmmm place, dunno, need a pen & paper, but hey, 13yrs is pretty good. ;)

BIGGYIN 06-01-15 07:00 PM

Hey John. I've been mostly at the Audi dealership and then under the bonnet fitting parts to keep my baby 'on the road'. :p

leggy 06-01-15 07:10 PM

Nice one BIGGYIN...must be time to get the tool kit out eh? ;)

Coxy 06-01-15 07:11 PM

and if this thread was re-titled "longest time of owning AND driving an Audi", I think the answers would be somewhat different!

I still think owning and driving an Audi for 18 years as a daily with no other vehicle is not going to be beaten by many on here!

leggy 06-01-15 07:13 PM

Woohoo sinbin5t, we have a new leader, 30yrs no less! :D

Some would say too long Garry
It has seen off a lot of rivals, and will again soon

vorsprung durch technik 06-01-15 07:22 PM

Got to agree with coxy.

I owned a 2.6 80 avant used as a daily from jan 2001 until march 2008 after completely rebuilding the suspension with all new audi parts literally everything and then promptly sold after buying a much lower mileage 2.6 avant that had all the toys. Such is life.

So its now 13 years driving and enjoying an 80 2.6 avant.Best car i have ever owned and it will be staying with me.:D

leggy 06-01-15 08:08 PM

Thanks for popping in vorsprung durch technik, someone with a car that I've actually heard of, in fact, if I'm correct in saying that it's the estate version of mine, then I've been privileged enough to drive one as a courtesy car once or twice in the past too. ;)
And styler too, good to know that we at least bought our cars in the same year, even if yours hasn't been on the road for quite as long. :(
That's a lot of miles steveb, and welcome to the 'long term Audi owners club'. ;)

Cheeky sod.
She may be tucked up tight, but she does get used well when taxed, as Glamis proved-

http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/...ad.php?t=26681

Curiously, how many folk choose a classic Audi from a small fleet of the things, for regular commutes?

This last 4 years have seen me using the V8 regularly,
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...P/P1000369.jpg

for 3 years mixing in the 100e quattro,
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...V/P1000420.jpg

and since getting the ur back in 2013, that has been used out of desire, rather than cool headed choice.

steveb - is your engine entirely original after 380k? Mine has just crossed 90k

Ben 06-01-15 10:09 PM
