Micky 07-04-11 04:48 PM

i do like that

Coxy 07-04-11 04:56 PM

no complaints on that one here, absolutely stunning.

rtz62 07-04-11 05:04 PM

Forever the pedant, but what is it? Is it a Custom with the wrong seats (Scheel, should be Recaro if a Custom) and a different engine, or a non-Custom with incorrect clock / custom pack, black painted rear panel, x pack wheels (should have steels) etc. Can't fault the execution, and each to their own, just expressing my opinion that I would prefer an original car. Very very nice though!

Nigel Conniford 07-04-11 05:12 PM

Ive just jizzed my pants :o:o

Thats real ford porn :tup::tup::tup::tup::tup::tup:

vag80 07-04-11 05:18 PM

stu

have you ever driven one in anger if not you wont get it untill you have

sweet as you like that one

not my colour though

rtz62 07-04-11 06:18 PM

I get them, but then my late teens were spent around that time; RS's were aspirational to us then, and lucky I owned a totally mint one. But I only understand standard ones....

B2AUDI80 07-04-11 06:20 PM

very nice with the early stripes and should go well with the zetec in it:tup:

I driven one angry, does that count??:lol:
Seriously though, each to their own, but the looks don't do anything for me.
I still find myself looking out of the window at the quattro, and the grale, and if I never drove them again, I 'd be happy just gazing :)

:lol::lol::lol:

as much as i love the five pot i would still have a mexico/rs 200/twin cam any day

but you do have to enjoy drifting for ultimate pleasure

SteveCat 07-04-11 08:14 PM

.

Gorgeous example there.

Loved all the Signal colour range.

Really emphasised the era these were made in.

rtz62 07-04-11 08:16 PM

rich,

being the pedant again, the Mexico, RS2000, RS1600 and T/C were all Mk1's, the Mexico and RS2000 were re-incarnated in Mk2 form, and none actualy drive that well; as for drifting; in a Mexico or RS2000, in standard form? You'd have to be trying very hard, and the RS1600 & T/C are too expensive and or fragile to try it with.

Rose tinted specs are wonderful, but any modern hatch (not even hot) would kill one dynamically ( having owned a mint Mexico and RS2000 'back in the day', and SteveT63 and I turning down a brown RS1600).:hand:

rtz62 07-04-11 08:18 PM

Oh and have a look at the one coming up for sale at Anglia Car Auctions imminently;

perfect in Terracotta ( a sort of salmony-redy colour; just like the one I had)

Willbo 07-04-11 08:19 PM

Yeh it looks really nice in that colour Signal Green. I'm sure its a 77 car.
I'll try to get more details.
There will be a full feature in Performance Ford very soon

both my mex mk1 amd 2 used to drift quite nicley on the loose stuff thankyou

maybe i was just trying very hard

but then again i never owned minters dont see the point its a car so drive it i dont own things just to look at or have trailer queens it kind of defeats the object somewhat :D

no rose tinted specs here i loved the mex especially the mk 1 and would have one again if i could afford it

still each to his own

rtz62 07-04-11 08:32 PM

Apart from being an 'R' reg, some clues are;

Ford badge spelled out on letters rather than an oval badge with Ford thereon
early model side stripes

the car appears to be a non-custom;- non-remote controlled drivers door mirror, Scheel seats, non custom steering wheel, no radio/cassette player or roof aerial, non-tinted glass (could have but difficult to tell from the images) etc, although I would guess someone has added,
x-pack alloys (non-custom would have steels), dashboard clock, rear panel between lights painted black (body colour on non-custom) etc

But bloody nice, no matter what!

Willbo 07-04-11 08:38 PM

I'll get the full sp tomorrow

styler 07-04-11 09:07 PM

X pack alloys were 7.5 inch.... theyre 7 inch...

car looks amazing.. zetec on TBs should run very nicely... bit of modern power in a classic body .... my kinda style...:tup:

I do know that the zetec is brand spanking new, and yes it goes like stink.

styler 07-04-11 09:16 PM

i built one a couple of years back and fitted a zetec with twin delortos... plenty of sideways fun.... sold it to a guy from chorley...

heres a wee pic..

David Small 07-04-11 09:19 PM

My one (well one of !) weakness from VAG cars - lovely example and Signal Green (I think) must be quite rare

rtz62 08-04-11 07:10 AM

Rich, couldn't disagree more about minters and trailer queens; mine was used every day and was still mint. And without them, what reference point would there be fir restorers???
As for drifting, you hit the nail on the head - "on gravel", because other than a very tight bend or wet Tarmac they really aren't powerful enough to drift; opposite lock yes, drift no.
But yes, I'd have another RS2000 tomorrow

MartinRS2K 08-04-11 10:54 AM

Thanks for putting the pics up Willy :)

The car is a 1976 (R Reg) early Broadstripe RS2000 in Signal Green (and yes it is a rare colour). The Scheel seats are correct for the year as the Fishnet Recaro seats were fitted to the later model year cars 'T' Plate onwards when Ford made a Custom and Base Model.

There was no such thing as an RS2000 Custom in the early cars as they were all the same spec. Glass is clear on the car (correct for the year as tinted was offered as an option), back panel is black (again correct only the Mexico and Base models had colour coded back panels), no Radio Cassette as this was an option on all RS 2000's including the later Custom models, dash clock and pod is also correct as only the later Base and Mexico models didn't have them fitted. The car has a remote mirror fitted which was added as an option from the factory :)

The car is fitted with 7" Ronal RS Alloys which were a Ford Motorsport option as the standard 6" Alloys in my opinion don't look as nice, it also has a 3 spoke RS motorsport steering wheel fitted and a 69L Grp 1 Petrol Tank.

The engine is a 2.0L Black Top Zetec engine with a BDA Style Cam cover fitted to give the retro look. It is running Fuel injection with Jenvey Throttle Bodies controlled by an Emerald M3D ECU and produces 180BHP.

The suspension is uprated along with the brakes and it also has a custom made 2 1/2" Stainless Steel Exhaust manifold and system.

As for handling it is a MK2 Escort which is light and great to throw around twisty roads but even with the 5 Speed gearbox modern hot hatchback cars will out perform it on Motorways and some A roads.

Are they driveable and competitive?? Just look how many MK1 and MK2 BDA Escorts are still competing at top level Rally events in the UK. They don't compare with modern WRC cars but they are 30 years old :finger:

finally, Thanks for appreciating my car and the nice comments :)

The Milkman 08-04-11 12:30 PM

Yeah, I'd have that. Stunning car.

rtz62 08-04-11 01:01 PM

Excellent car. The reason they are still competitive in rallying is they usually compete in a class suitable fir their age and in which they are truly competitive, as they were in period. Only the 911 seems to ever beat them.
But. Doesn't alter the fact that it's a superb car you have there  and better than the RS2000 I have at the moment. Er, just remembered, I haven't got one at the moment 

thanks for the comments. It doesn't have the luxury or road holding of a Quattro and it's not an enjoyable drive if you are driving it to a show 200+ miles away on the M6 (unless you are in an RS convoy travelling at 60mph  ) but I grew up with them and have had 911's, Cosworth's, M3's etc. but still come back to MK2's as the friends I have made and help you get from like minded owners make it worthwhile :)

p.s. I would love a nice white or blue Audi Quattro Turbo but have no space in the garage with my RS and my one 'lady' owner Fiesta XR2 MK2 with 35k miles on the clock and a full service history with every MOT :)

It's not concours but has never been damaged/welded and has all original glass, lights, panels and original bill of sale

Thanks for giving the full sp on your car Martin. I couldn't of put it better myself.

Booty 08-04-11 09:04 PM

Absolutely stunning as and with some superb modern touches to make it more usuable. It always makes me laugh when people state that a modern day hot hatch will trounch an old skool Ford. If anyone has ever witnessed a full on 200+ bhp Escort Rally car in full flight with modern tweaks then they are doing themselves an injustice if they think that is the case.

4v6 08-04-11 09:21 PM

Id have the escort in a heartbeat. Love that.

rtz62 08-04-11 09:38 PM

Booty, a rally-prep'd 200bhp Escort is a very different animal from, say, a Clio 200 Cup or a 10v road-going ur...!
