If someones got a pattern i can use itd be possible to make them from 316L stainless perhaps.

86audicoupe 07-02-11 10:21 AM

Could always get it made if you can't find one! They can take a template off the existing one on the car.

Hiya, i have at present no idea what the material costs would be.
As you can appreciate, thats a large proportion of the cost, then getting the various bends put on is another.
The welding aspect isnt particularly involved with only a couple of runs required *if* i can get the pipes bent in one go rather than having to stictch together sections.
Deffo easier to do it in large runs tho and quicker too.
Need to find someone with a pipe bender locally i can trust to do it.....crikey have i got to source a pipe bending machine next?? :D

Gouldy 07-02-11 08:45 PM

well if you find out a price let me know, maybe we can have a group buy!!!

Rickman 08-02-11 02:21 AM

I would be interested in a 5-3-1 manifold, if I could tig, or if I even had a tig I would do it myself :wall:

I also have a manifold, and a 3-1 downpipe off the car, although the 1 part has been replaced due to rotten bits

quattro mac. 08-02-11 03:44 PM

I have a brand new one of these somewhere with a new the gasket as well.....bought it 3 years ago payed silly money as mine was blowing on my 90 quattro...but have sold the car now....any offers ??????

BIGGYIN 08-02-11 04:07 PM

What did you pay for it and is it for a saloon?Coupe ones, are shorter and needs a blank,to fill gap.

quattro mac. 09-02-11 12:25 PM

I bought the triple downpipe and complete exhaust and gasket for for 175 and 20 post and and packing...but its all brand new so i thought nothing of it....im sure its for a saloon...but i have never double checked....it just lives under my bed gaining dust......lol....nice to know the coupe ones are shorter...

Gouldy 14-02-11 07:59 PM

still after one, may consider the normal style manifold if not! , could use it until i have something made up!

Jolfa 22-02-11 03:43 AM

Don't suppose you have pics to confirm which you're after and which is 'normal' do you?

I may well have one, I'm not sure? If they're worth money I'll get it copied first too :p

was that the same tsr one i had off you?if so reason it was blowing was one or more studs/bolts into the manifold were snapped off

i miss that car

quattro mac. 22-02-11 11:12 AM

I have sold the brand new exhaust i had...the guy never wanted the new triple downpipe so its still up for grabs(extremely hard to find a new one of these).....it fits the quattro 90 salloon....as im told the coupe one is a different size slightly....

BIGGYIN 22-02-11 01:58 PM

Coupe pipe.(Shorter)

I've got the one (as above) that I took off my 90q, this no good?

BIGGYIN 22-02-11 06:16 PM

If it's exactly the same,it's off a coupe or maybe a saloon with a cat?
The one on my q90,is the same,but about 12 inches longer(top left end,in pic.).:ihih:
I have a stainless steel one, that size.To fit it to my q90 saloon,I,ll have to get a cat blank(or flexi joint.) or have the middle exhaust section made up a foot longer.:(

Martc 22-02-11 06:35 PM

On Coupe Quattros there were two types of exhaust system but as I understand it the same downpipe....

Pre 86 Model year had a longer middle section of the exhaust

86 Model year onwards which had a cat bypass pipe and a shorter middle section exhaust This allowed for countries where a cat was fitted, in the UK we got the Cat bypass pipe....

I would think if the issue is the downpipe is shorter you can use the cat bypass pipe to make up the difference.

Top one,for cat.
Bottom one, have on my q90 saloon.
HOPE THIS,WILL HELP PEOPLE?

Jolfa 22-02-11 09:16 PM

I have the top one (which came off an '86 90q saloon), I still have no idea which one we're looking for here though

BIGGYIN 22-02-11 10:11 PM

Both,will do.But I'm thinking of getting a stainless steel(bottom pic),made up.
Every q90 B2 85 saloon I've had,have all had the longer pipe.(1985 and 1986)
I could use the top(pic)pipe, but it's an extra part(cat blank).I might have to go down that route,if it costs too much to have a longer one made up?
IF I can have one made up for a reasonal price,I'll have a stainless steel shorter one for sale.

Gouldy 22-02-11 10:15 PM

turns out , i dont think its the downpipe blowing at the manifold join,

i think its the downpipe/frontpipe blowing (due to crappy aftermarket exhaust system)

BIGGYIN 22-02-11 10:32 PM

That will be,an easier job.

Definitely the shorter pipe with the joiner section, it was the de-cat bit that had seperated on mine and was blowing like hell

Mind you I've been told a couple of bits on mine are less than common now, the gauges I have are pretty unusual too apparently...

BIGGYIN 22-02-11 10:44 PM

Hog the thread.

What are your gauges like?
