Don't have all the details of it's "offs" now but do remember the shell pretty much needed seams rewelded on every event. The 90 sheet metal alloy made welding difficult and less able to cope with the stresses of forest stages :(

Nice thread this! Are there any pics of it underneath?

A friend of mine ( please do not ask 'who') has recently acquired a rather nice piece of Audi Motorsport Heritage. Back in 1989 Bob Locke put together three Type 89 90 quattro Rally Cars using Matter Shells together for His GBM Audi Team. The car was driven by Jimmy McRae and he won the 1990 Granite Rally. All were non-turbo, naturally aspirated engines and were as follows.

90-44-MN which was a 5 cylinder 10 Valve.

MN-90-44 which started life as a 10 valve but was later converted to 20 valve, but proved problematic and was subsequently shipped off to America.

MN-44-90 which was a 10 valve but was written off early on in an accident in the UK.

Looking at the spec of the car the power would be around the 200-220 bhp mark, running a sixth injector to enrichen the mixture after 5k rpm. Wet sumped with all chassis and suspension mountings needing to be as per the factory cars due to Grp A regs. The car will be restored in time and will probably be used for demonstration purposes.

Booty, any update on your friend's car?

Car now finished and looking fantastic. As it was back on the Granite Rally.
