My one (well one of !) weakness from VAG cars - lovely example and Signal Green (I think) must be quite rare
|
Rich, couldn't disagree more about minters and trailer queens; mine was used every day and was still mint. And without them, what reference point would there be fir restorers???
As for drifting, you hit the nail on the head - "on gravel", because other than a very tight bend or wet Tarmac they really aren't powerful enough to drift; opposite lock yes, drift no. But yes, I'd have another RS2000 tomorrow |
Thanks for putting the pics up Willy :)
The car is a 1976 (R Reg) early Broadstripe RS2000 in Signal Green (and yes it is a rare colour). The Scheel seats are correct for the year as the Fishnet Recaro seats were fitted to the later model year cars 'T' Plate onwards when Ford made a Custom and Base Model. There was no such thing as an RS2000 Custom in the early cars as they were all the same spec. Glass is clear on the car (correct for the year as tinted was offered as an option), back panel is black (again correct only the Mexico and Base models had colour coded back panels), no Radio Cassette as this was an option on all RS 2000's including the later Custom models, dash clock and pod is also correct as only the later Base and Mexico models didn't have them fitted. The car has a remote mirror fitted which was added as an option from the factory :) The car is fitted with 7" Ronal RS Alloys which were a Ford Motorsport option as the standard 6" Alloys in my opinion don't look as nice, it also has a 3 spoke RS motorsport steering wheel fitted and a 69L Grp 1 Petrol Tank. The engine is a 2.0L Black Top Zetec engine with a BDA Style Cam cover fitted to give the retro look. It is running Fuel injection with Jenvey Throttle Bodies controlled by an Emerald M3D ECU and produces 180BHP. The suspension is uprated along with the brakes and it also has a custom made 2 1/2" Stainless Steel Exhaust manifold and system. As for handling it is a MK2 Escort which is light and great to throw around twisty roads but even with the 5 Speed gearbox modern hot hatchback cars will out perform it on Motorways and some A roads. Are they driveable and competitive?? Just look how many MK1 and MK2 BDA Escorts are still competing at top level Rally events in the UK. They don't compare with modern WRC cars but they are 30 years old :finger: finally, Thanks for appreciating my car and the nice comments :) |
Yeah, I'd have that. Stunning car.
|
Excellent car. The reason they are still competitive in rallying is they usually compete in a class suitable fir their age and in which they are truly competitive, as they were in period. Only the 911 seems to ever beat them.
But. Doesn't alter the fact that it's a superb car you have there and better than the RS2000 I have at the moment. Er, just remembered, I haven't got one at the moment |

p.s. I would love a nice white or blue Audi Quattro Turbo but have no space in the garage with my RS and my one 'lady' owner Fiesta XR2 MK2 with 35k miles on the clock and a full service history with every MOT :) It's not concours but has never been damaged/welded and has all original glass, lights, panels and original bill of sale  http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...G/P1000763.jpg http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...G/P1000764.jpg http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...G/P1000765.jpg http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...G/P1000767.jpg http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...G/P1000768.jpg |
