I fitted this Superchips ecu today, not a difficult job at all but a little bit cramped for someone of my build working down in the footwell :lol:

Before putting the trim panels back in I mada sure that the car started and took it for a 'test drive'.

My normal test route takes me onto an industrial estate where its very quiet but today I stuck mostly to the 'black country route'.

In assessing the performance difference I was very careful to not just think the car felt better/worse.

Initial impressions over about 6 miles are of a fre-er revving engine, more responsive throttle, adn increased torque through the rev range but particularly from about 3,600rpm onwards.

So thanks Tom C, that was £20 well spent.

Glad we did business, i have been reading and all i can imagine they do on these superchips ecu's is make the engine run slightly richer over the standard 14.7:1 air fuel ratio ....

Aah the 14.7:1 mesurement, stoichometric!

I think the chip also alters the ignition curve and timing because they advertise them with increased fuel economy. Simply increasing the fuelling would do the opposite.

A simple resistor fitted inline could fool the ecu into enriching the fuelling but theres more to it than that.

I drove a few more miles today and its easy to see/feel that the drivability ahs improved with more ability to pull at lower revs in any given gear.

Ahh thats very interesting, and very true! See if you notice any difference in economy then :)

I wonder how much difference a ported head would make? plus a tubular manifold?

A ported haed properly done will make a huge difference, if I can get one cheaply enough then I'll probably get to work on it.

The next stage in my mods though is a panel air filter and an inlet cam from the abf engine.

By that time my exhaust will need changing so a stainless custom jobby will be on the cards.

Ah nice one..... whats the abf engine :P How do i tell what head is an abf engine? howmuch are 16v heads worth
