I might have a play then and see what happens! Audi can be useless at times - unhelpful and not have a clue about parts on older models. Let me know how you get on and whether it's successful (obviously depends on whether your friend manages to source the part!).

This reminds me of another job I need to tackle... The boot release for the coupe. Not broken yet but if it did it would be a major job and never been replaced since I bought the car in 1991, hence its on the list as a 'replace before it breaks' job during this Winter's SORN. But is the boot release cable still available?!
