Gaz, I saw this a while back;

http://www.ferriday.co.uk/gaskets/gaskets.shtml

Thermal spacers/gaskets to reduce heat transfer from the exhaust manifold to the head, and from the head to the inlet manifold. IIRC they mention that non crossflow engines use the same spacer/for both manifolds. Informative website and they seem to know their stuff, no idea of pricing but I'll be giving them a call one day.

Prob too late, but hope this helps.

034 motorsport do 10v spacers but they aren't the cheapest. You'll struggle to really alter intake temperatures with redesigning alot.

Very good website, and I can vouch this does work. However I have not tried on my Audi GT Coupe I have done it in my hobby which is RC Cars and Boats. One of my cars got the card so hot the fuel boiled before it got to the engine, put a thermal inlet gasket sorted the problem big time.....

I have read through the site and for the inlet and outlet set is going to be about £90.00 which sounds like it might be worth it, also it does point out to work properly if you stop the water flow into the inlet manifold.
