W6DTC are the correct standard plugs for a KV. 200% sure. But what if I wanted to upgrade to bosch super 4's? or iridium's ?.. What do i need to look for to find the corresponding updated plug? |
For bosch plugs...
W = The seat and thread section of the plug. 6 = Heat range code (high number equals higher running temperatures of the electrode/plug. D = Thread length and spark position. T = Electrode version C = The material used (C-copper E-nickel yttrium P-platinum S-silver) You really need to match the heat range number and electrode gap.... you can run with more electrodes but not less than standard. This is why CQ engines with single electrode plugs installed can have running issues under load.. |
The Bosch W6DTC has been discontinued by Bosch, although you can still get them from Audi - that's why GSF will try and flog you W6R DC which are single electrode.
Regarding the KV, the W7DTC was specified if the car had a catalyst. From 1989 onwards (series 3 cars) all KV engines came with the W7 |

Also Audi will supply you single electrode plugs as the family album for the CQ only shows up to 85 MY KV engines. You have to look at the 90 Quattro for the right plug which is WDT6's- Its a right old mess.....! |
