Hi I like to think of myself as one of the pioneers for the Audi marque in the UK,in 1972 after twelve months of misery with my first new car an MGB I decided to buy an Audi 100GL,at that time Audi had only a small market share in the UK and the car created much interest ,I loved its build quality, reliability and drive ability so much that after 30K miles I traded it in for a new Coupe S. The styling of the S was superb although the car was referred to as the poor man's Aston Martin it really was a head turner.I fitted a big set of alloys to finish it off and in those days I could drive from London to Bristol and not see the same car.The car did have a problem Audi has moved the disc's inboard this caused vibration to the gearbox and the mainshaft bearings had to be replaced three times, however despite this I drove over 50K miles and loved it sadly parting company when I changed jobs and had a company Ford .If anyone knows of the history of VBL392N after 1977 I would be very interested
My association with Audi's did not finish there ,my father on his retirement took my advice and bought an Audi Coupe GT5S in 1981 reg no KUC 323X which some will quickly recognise as the restoration project of another car nut in our family BRYFLYINBY .Bry is doing a superb job of restoration of which his grandfather would be very proud and we all look forward to the car getting back on the road.
